Shoalhaven Apartments in Auckland’s Takapuna is a large development broken into three distinct buildings, each with a separate circulation node. Consisting of 134 apartments of varying sizes, the built form makes the most of extensive views to the south over Shoal Bay and the city beyond.
The apartments are oriented around a central landscaped podium with large grass areas, pool and communal facilities including a lounge area, pétanque court, garden house and kitchen. Extensive carparking and storage facilities are located under the podium. |
Building on this former quarry and land fill site created complexities such as the need for 25 metre deep piling. Landfill creates gas and this is carefully collected and dissipated through designated circulation areas. These costly factors determined that the project be economic in form and simple in execution.
Designed for minimal maintenance, the central Takapuna location means occupants at Shoalhaven enjoy not just the amenities on site, but also convenient foot access to the shops, beach and public transport. |
