Tucked between pōhutukawa, this waterfront site is very exposed to strong easterlies. Located on one of the Bay of Islands reputedly best beaches, the golden sand and lapping waves of Long Beach offer safe swimming in all tides, and views to nearby Roberton Island.

Working with a modest budget and on a smaller scale, cedar and block was chosen for this holiday home for its durability to the weather as well as low maintenance.

Hugging the hillside with garaging and spare bedrooms on the ground level, a central protected courtyard on the first floor, open to the north, separates living from sleeping areas and provides a sheltered space when the wild easterly blows.
